What Can We Do for You?
PMI or Positive Material Identification is the evaluation of a part’s elemental and physical characteristics. PMI can tell you what the grade, elemental breakdown, and the strength of the material is. PMI testing ensures traceability of components from manufacturing to final assembly.
When Do You Need PMI?
You need PMI to prevent mistakes, reduce liability, ensure quality and guarantee safety. When you need to know what material was used, what weld material to use, what Carbon Steel grade you are repairing, or what the old parts that failed were made of.

Why Do You Need PMI?
To ensure that the supplier or fabricator used the right material, to find out why a failure occurred and minimize unplanned outages. According to OSHA PMI testing & inspection reduces or eliminates workplace hazards associated with catastrophic release of highly hazardous chemicals. Studies show that in the Petrochemical & Refinery facilities almost half of the largest losses are a direct result of failures in piping systems. PMI testing is not a quality issue…. it’s a liability issue. Performing PMI ensures that you comply with industrial standards, such as API RP-571, API RP-578 and API RP-939-C.
Do We Only Do PMI?
No! We also do on-site Ferrite, hardness, and grain structure testing. We also have a full scale metallurgical laboratory and a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering on staff.
