See why companies like Shell, Kinder Morgan, and Enterprise trust PMI

Since our founding in 1992, PMI Specialists has been the industry leader in Positive Material Identification (PMI) services. Today, we do even more. PMI Specialists now sets the gold standard in all kinds of materials analysis. From pipeline strength analysis with state-of-the-art ABI® technology to in-lab failure analysis, PMI Specialists is committed to finding what you need to know, when you need to know

Lab

Our Lab is equipped with the best equipment and operators. Our cutting edge Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEMs), Scanning 3-D microscopes, and Optical Emissions Spectroscope are operated by two Ph.D. materials engineers to find the answers you need to know with the utmost precision.

Field

With over 30 years of experience, PMI Specialists are the experts in field materials analysis. Our extremely impressive assortment of portable metallurgical analysis equipment such as XRF, LIBS, OES, UT, and ABI equipment allows us to perform analysis others can only dream of. We are also one of the only companies that sends Ph.Ds. to perform field work: for when you need to know the technical specifics.

PMI Specialists has been providing field and lab-based metallurgical service since 1992. Our in-house laboratory (equipped with a 3-D Olympus Microscope and a ZEISS SEM/EDS) is staffed with 2 highly experienced Materials Engineers: Wayne Fei (PhD) and Harry Gao (PhD, PE). Both have multi-disciplinary background and can do on-site investigations. It is unprecedented for PhDs in metallurgy to perform field work and it vastly improves the quality of our subsequent reports.

Heard Enough?

We specialize in providing high quality composition analysis (including Carbon and trace elements), hardness testing, and in-situ metallography on all kinds of steels and alloys. We are capable of non-destructively determining the Yield Strength/Ultimate Tensile Strength/Fracture Toughness on steel pipelines and pressure vessels through the use of ABI®. We routinely provide grading services of unknown carbon/low alloy steel pipe/plate by Automated Ball Indentation (ABI®) for DCP, Kinder Morgan, Energy Transfer, Enterprise, Occidental and Anadarko.

Our highly experienced technicians and PhDs arrive at your job site with the knowledge and experience required to assess the situation and accurately measure your parts.

PMI testing is not necessarily a quality issue…It is also a liability issue that can significantly impact your firm’s exposure. PMI is regarded as necessary per industry standards API RP-571, RP-578 and RP-939-C. The significance of PMI testing should not be underestimated.

We at PMI appreciate and understand the gravity of these issues. We do not view this process lightly. Our certifications, qualifications, policies, and standards reflect our commitments to accuracy and integrity.
