Field Services
We bring the lab to you. PMI Specialists deploys PhD materials engineers and portable instrumentation (XRF, LIBS, ABI, and more) directly to refineries, pipelines, and job sites for answers you can act on the same day.

Positive Material Identification (PMI)
Positive Material Identification verifies the chemical composition of installed and incoming materials to confirm they meet specification. Using portable XRF, and OES or LIBS where carbon and light elements matter, we confirm alloy grade right where the material sits.
PMI is a cornerstone of process-safety management: it reduces or eliminates the workplace hazards tied to the catastrophic release of highly hazardous chemicals. We routinely catch components stamped one grade and actually made of another before they ever enter service.
Automated Ball Indentation (ABI)
ABI is a non-destructive method for determining mechanical properties, including yield strength, on pipelines and other in-service infrastructure without cutting out a sample. A spherical indenter runs a series of load–unload cycles while load and depth are recorded, and an elastic-plastic model reconstructs the material's flow behavior.
Because no coupon is removed, ABI is ideal for pipelines of unknown or undocumented grade, fitness-for-service evaluations, and any situation where taking material out of service isn't an option.
Everything else we bring on site.
In-Situ Metallography
Field metallographic replication and examination performed on installed equipment: grinding, polishing, etching, and imaging microstructure without removing the component. Ideal for weld quality and high-temperature damage assessment.
View serviceOn-Site Hardness Testing
Portable UCI and rebound hardness measurement at the job site using instruments such as the GE MIC10 and Proceq Equotip, for weld qualification, PWHT verification, and material screening.
View serviceFree Iron Testing
Detection and quantification of free iron contamination on stainless and alloy surfaces, a key quality-control check to prevent surface rusting and premature corrosion.
View serviceFire & Explosion Damage Analysis
On-site forensic assessment of materials and equipment following fire or explosion incidents, characterizing heat exposure, damage extent, and metallurgical effects for investigations and claims.

PhD engineers, not just technicians, at the job site.
Field data is only as good as the person interpreting it. PMI Specialists sends materials engineers who understand the metallurgy behind the readings, so you get a decision, not just a number.
